Today we had a CNPA outing to the northern end of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We were hoping to see the nesting skimmers and least terns, but they were nowhere to be found. They had been there as recently as last week, but there was none on [...]

Here are a couple more images from my recent trip to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge in Florida. It was a cloudy morning when I took the below images. Therefore, I increased my ISO so that I would have enough shutter speed to stop the action of the birds actively feeding in the water. In this [...]

I haven’t been out photographing too much lately as I have been doing a lot of computer work. Thought I would share another pelican image from last month. The [...]

Over the past weekend I participated in the Carolinas’ Nature Photographers Association (CNPA) mid-year outing on the Outer Banks. On one of the outings I went to the Pungo Unit of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. The Pungo Unit consists of dirt roads and agriculture fields and is a favorite spot to almost 85,000 wintering [...]

The hooded merganser drake has been a species that I have wanted to add to my stocklist. I have had the opportunity in the past to photograph the hen but not the drake. The morning that I photographed the mergansers at the Viera Wetlands they were swimming and diving in some beautiful blue water. I was happy that the water [...]

There is a pair of bald eagles that nest just off the Viera Wetlands property, and the eagles are regularly seen around the wetlands. I was hoping that on this trip I would be able to get some up close images of the eagles. On my previous visits I only saw the eagles fly over the [...]
